CC: Generic Conventions

Horror


Sinister (Derickson, 2012)




  • Suspence created through non-diegetic sound.
  • Close ups of small child is conventional of a horror themed film
  • Usage of blood connotes murder and death.
  • The lack of shots given to the 'demon' creates suspense for the audience (not knowing what the demon is)
The use of demonic symbols are also convnetional for a supernatural horror film.



Hide and Seek



  • Open water shows isolation.
  • Brightly coloured scenes followed by dark scenes shows juxtaposition within the plot.
  • Young girl shows iconic horror film plot.
  • Fast-paced continuity editing shows action.

  1. I'm not sure from you post which is horror and which is thriller? Make sure you understand the difference - if not go back to the VLE and look up the examples and guidance given.
